ROUTES TO FREEDOM

Routes to Freedom, 2024

Routes to Freedom is a series of sculptures inspired by Persian rug motifs in forms, reflecting my journey of identity, home, and creative liberation. Rooted in my Persian heritage, these works explore my personal experiences of migration and self-discovery, culminating in a newfound sense of belonging and freedom in Canada. Through the use of primary colours and dynamic interaction with their surroundings, the sculptures symbolize the fluidity of personal identity. By placing them against Winnipeg’s snowy landscapes, I emphasize the blend of my cultural roots with the liberation I’ve found in this new environment.

Integral to this series is my studio space, where the wooden floor becomes a canvas of freedom. Here, surrounded by the sculptures in various arrangements, I found a place where I could truly be myself and enjoy the present moment. The studio serves as a reminder of how a space can bring joy and freedom of mind, allowing creativity to flourish. This series embodies my pursuit of freedom, both artistically and personally, illustrating the joy and fulfillment derived from embracing one’s unique path and expressing one’s true self.
